How prolific and incredible is Taylor Sheridan? For me, he epitomises everything that’s great in a writer. I’m constantly awestruck by the depth and scale of his storytelling and his ability to switch genres.

From Yellowstone’s sepia cowboy country (spot the Taylor cameos) to the gritty, unsettling world of The Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King’s glorious in-between (not to mention movie screenplays like Sicario) Taylor’s multi-layered, provocative plotlines and beautifully drawn characters are, in a word, awesome. Is anyone doing epic drama series better?

The series’ title sequences are gorgeous too, as is the sound design, acting and direction. Great writing attracts great talent though, which just adds to the production value pile up, but it all begins with the writing.

Taylor Sheridan’s strong female characters resonate brilliantly. Yellowstone’s Beth Dutton is an all-time favourite and if you need any further proof, checkout Lioness – now in its 2nd season – showcasing Sheridan’s skill in yet another genre.

Good writing is at the core of our creative process

Too often, people in our creative industries – whether Advertising & Marketing or Corporate Communications – undervalue the role of writers. Some even bill the entire the creative process to designers alone, which is not only unfair on the designers, but also sidelines our incredible copywriters and their huge impact on the ideation process.

Our work is fundamentally storytelling, and our writers are at the core of the Sassy+ teams that collaborate around a client brief. The whole team ideate & formulate to deliver cut-through creative with high production values and technical innovation. It’s this whole package that engages audiences and drives results.

I say ignore writers at your peril and to the detriment of the job. And when you find a good one grab them and don’t let go.  Good writers should be celebrated; their stories are the lifeblood of creativity.

Taylor Sheridan, we salute you (you also seem to know a lot of serious people, so we’re a little bit scared).
